Description

This bulletin announces the new customer upgrade distribution process for FirstClass products. FirstClass server and protocol module products will be available exclusively on FCOL (FirstClass Online), immediately following announcement of general availability.

The affected FirstClass server products are inclusive of, but not limited to:
        · FirstClass Core Server
        · FirstClass Internet Services
        · FirstClass Voice Services
        · FirstClass Connectors
        · FirstClass Directory Services

FirstClass client products will continue to be simultaneously distributed on both FCOL and our website www.firstclass.com.

Effective Date

The FirstClass 8.0 upgrade request process will be introduced in early May 2004. Please watch our website for the FirstClass 8.0 Upgrade Request Form. The FirstClass 8.0 software upgrade distribution process will be in effect when FirstClass 8.0 becomes GA (generally available). The GA date for FirstClass 8.0 is targeted for calendar Q2/2004.

FirstClass 8.0 Software and License Upgrade Distribution

The FirstClass Division is continuing to improve your FirstClass M&S (Maintenance and Support) value. As part of our efforts to simplify software upgrades, we are putting into effect a new distribution process for FirstClass products. Administrators will now be invited to download their upgrades exclusively from FCOL, rather than from our website. A significant portion of your M&S benefits will continue to be delivered via FCOL, which is best viewed and experienced through the robust FirstClass client.

To upgrade to FirstClass 8.0, you will need an electronic upgrade license for the server, and be currently running FirstClass 7.1. If you are upgrading from a pre 7.1 version, you will receive more than one upgrade license. In addition, if your customer site is provisioned with the Unified Communications (UC) Option, you will also require the new UC Regular Users electronic license for your licensed UC users. As the site administrator, you will have these license(s) delivered directly to your FCOL account, or alternatively you may specify to your channel partner’s if you require upgrade assistance.

To initiate the new process, you must complete and submit an Upgrade Request form, located on www.firstclass.com. This will send the necessary electronic license(s) to your FCOL account (may take several days). If you do not have an FCOL account, we will create an account for you and then send the electronic license(s) to your new account. Post FirstClass 8.0, we will automatically deliver upgrade notices and upgrade electronic licenses to your FCOL account, eliminating the request step.

The Upgrade Request Process

To receive your electronic license:

1       Open the FirstClass 8.0 Upgrade Request form on www.firstclass.com.

2       Fill in the required fields.

3       If you have an FCOL account

a Click Yes for User Account.

b If your site is provisioned with the Unified Communications option, enter the number of UC users on your server.

Your FirstClass 8.0 upgrade and Unified Communications (if applicable) electronic license will be sent to your FCOL account.

If you do not have an FCOL account

a Click No for User Account.

b Enter your preferred UserID and an alternate UserID.

The alternate UserID will be used if your preferred UserID is already assigned.

A new account will be created for you. The account information will be sent to the non-FCOL email address you provide. Please log into your new FCOL account using your FirstClass client (at this address: fc.firstclass.com) as soon as possible to become familiar with the FirstClass Desktop. You will find your electronic license(s) in your new FCOL account Mailbox.

What's Next?

After you receive your license(s), you can download your FirstClass 8.0 upgrade from FCOL anytime after the GA announcement for the FirstClass server platforms (Windows 2000, Mac OS X, or Linux). The upgrades will be located in a conference on your FCOL account Desktop along with the release notes, upgrade instructions, and installation and configuration information (please read these before you start).
