Synchronization can be done from any computer that has the palmOne Desktop and FirstClass Palm Sync software installed. The palmOne Desktop software must be installed on your computer before you can install FirstClass Palm Sync.

FirstClass Palm Sync

Using the palmOne HotSync® Manager 4.0 and higher (Windows), palmOne HotSync Manager 3.0 and higher (Mac OS and Mac OS X), and FirstClass Palm Sync you can bi-directionally synchronize your contact and calendar entries, mail, tasks, and memos between a palmOne device and FirstClass.

The new product features and major quality enhancements for the FirstClass Palm Sync 8.006 components are listed below.

New Product Features

- Users may now choose between installing either synchronization support for the new palmOne personal information management (PIM) applications included with the Tungsten T3, Tungsten T5, Tungsten E, Treo 650, Zire 21, and Zire 72 devices and HotSync 6.01, or for the previous generation of palmOne/Palm devices.
- The additional fields introduced in palmOne's new PIM applications for Calendar, Contacts, Memos and Tasks for the Tungsten T3, Tungsten T5, Tungsten E, Treo 650, Zire 21, and Zire 72 devices now synchronized with FirstClass are:

Calendar
Support for Location, No Timed Events, Categories.

Colors from palmOne Categories will be used if not already set in a FirstClass account.

Note that events longer than 24 hours will be shortened to 23 hours and 59 minutes due to a limitation of palmOne devices. For long events, make the event a daily repeat.

Contacts
Support for Birthday, new Addresses (Business, Home & Other), Instant Messaging (M1, IM2), 7 phones/emails, website, 9 custom fields. Note that Picture on the Tungsten T5 is not synchronized to FirstClass.

The new palmOne contact form introduced in the FirstClass Client 8.043 should be used with this feature. It is selected on the General tab under Preferences.

If the palmOne device has more than one address of the same type (e.g. two work addresses) only one will be mapped to that type to a FirstClass account, the other will be mapped to one of the other types.

Memos
Memos can now be 32k in size.

Tasks
Support for Alarm, Completed Date (this field is not synchronized to palmOne devices, but is still retained).

If a new task is synchronized from the palmOne device, a color will be set based on its priority.

When synchronizing from a FirstClass account to a palmOne device, the old palmOne device priority will be retained if not changed on the FirstClass account.

Note that Repeat is not supported due to no equivalent in FirstClass tasks.

- Other FirstClass fields not synchronized to palmOne devices, such as color, are retained.
- With all conduits, HandHeld overwrites Desktop has been changed to always Synchronize. Previously, instances of Synchronize arbitrarily changed to HHtoPC (HandHeld overwrites PC) by HotSync, resulting in records being lost from FirstClass.
- Logging has been upgraded, and device identification has been added.

FCSetup
- The Server field now supports up to 60 characters.
- An encryption method may now be selected - Default, Off, Fast, Secure.  This is similar to the security levels featured in the FirstClass client, offering an option to login to FirstClass with CAST128 encryption levels.
- Password is now entered using the standard palmOne Assigned or Unassigned method, with an additional pop-up dialog box for password entry.

Quality Enhancements Since FirstClass Palm Sync 7.143

Calendar
- No Time events now synchronize.
- Any change to a part of a broken repeated event is not duplicating second chunk any more.
- Only Private Sensitivity on FirstClass sets the palmOne device Private flag now.  Company, Personal and Normal will not.
- Breaking the chain of events does not remove participants, resources, location.
- No time repeated events with no end date no longer synchronize to FirstClass as continuing forever and disappear after second synchronization.

Contacts
- When a contact record is modified on FirstClass and then synchronized to a palmOne Tungsten T3, the following error "DataMgr.c, Line:7399, DmWrite: DmWriteCheck failed" no longer occurs when changes are then made to that contact on the Tungsten T3.

Memos
- Styledata is now cleared from FirstClass when synchronizing changes from a palmOne memo back to FirstClass.
- Memo name was not synchronizing from a FirstClass envelope if the first line of the document was empty.

Tasks
- Alarm now synchronizes from FirstClass to palmOne devices.  Note that the Reminder translation is limited since palmOne devices only supports a maximum of 99 days.  FirstClass Reminders will be rounded down to 5 minute intervals.
- The start date time set on FirstClass is now retained even after the palmOne Event is changed and the FirstClass event is updated.

Date Book
- Splitting an unending event previously lost the tail of the event. The Repeat Until end time of last part of broken event was not previously set correctly.
