Open Text Announces Release of FirstClass 8.2
New User Interface Enhancements Facilitate the Transition of Users moving to FirstClass from other Messaging Systems
Richmond Hill, Canada – May 19th, 2006 -- Open Text™ Corporation (NASDAQ: OTEX, TSX: OTC), the leading independent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, today announced the general availability of FirstClass 8.2, the newest release of its FirstClass division’s powerful suite of integrated communications and collaboration applications.
FirstClass 8.2 provides a suite of new user interface options that are aimed at making it easier for people moving to FirstClass from other messaging and/or groupware systems.
"The FirstClass user interface has proven to be very popular with FirstClass users who appreciate its consistent, highly integrated approach to such a wide range of collaboration applications" said Jon Asbury, Assistant Vice-President, FirstClass Client Software Development. "With FirstClass 8.2 we've enhanced our user interface to provide options that, when enabled, provide a familiar look and feel for people who have previously used Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. At the same time, we've been able to extend that user interface model to make the rich collaboration capabilities of FirstClass easily accessible."
Key new features in FirstClass 8.2 include:
Enhanced Explore Interface: This new interface provides a familiar and convenient application launch point for the groupware applications within FirstClass such as Messaging, Contacts, and Calendars as well as additional collaboration applications such as Instant Messaging, Conferencing, and the FirstClass Virtual Desktop. in addition the FirstClass toolbars have been updated with new drop-down buttons to simplify access to the range of options associated with prominent buttons such as "New" and "Reply".
Electronic Trash Can: FirstClass now provides a trash can folder which shows all deleted and expired items that have not yet been physically deleted by the FirstClass Audit. Users can "undelete" items by simply dragging them out of the Trash Can.
Mailbox Display Flexibility: This new option enables users to choose whether they want to manage their mailbox through separate Inbox/Outbox/Drafts folders or take advantage of the powerful threaded messaging feature that is built in to the standard FirstClass universal mailbox.
Mail Item Display Flexibility: Users can now choose between different mail forms that provide choice for where fields such as To:, CC:, and Subject: are in the displayed form.
Automated Drop-down Addressing: This provides users with a dynamic directory search that narrows as each character of a recipient's name is entered. This saves time and increases the accuracy of addressing mail.
