Description
This is an announcement of the general availability (GA) of FirstClass ED (Educational Development) 2.0. It is supported on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux platforms.
The new product component versions are:
• FirstClass ED 2.0 Build 22
• FirstClass Online Testing Authoring Build 1.0.72
• FirstClass Online Testing Runtime Build 1.0.61
• FirstClass Online Testing Reports Build 1.0.23
• FirstClass Online Testing Import-Export Build 142

For new installations, please contact FirstClass Division Sales.
FirstClass ED 1.0/1.1 customers should contact FirstClass Division Professional Services (via your regional Customer Support Center listed at the end of this bulletin) to obtain the upgrade, and/or schedule technical assistance.
The FirstClass Online Testing (FCOT) application may be purchased separately from FirstClass ED. FCOT operates in evaluation mode when unlicensed. In evaluation mode, questions and tests may be created, previewed, saved, and modified, but tests cannot be run. FCOT in evaluation mode will be automatically available to all sites that upgrade to the to-be-announced FirstClass 9.1 SP1 and using the new “Update Service” feature.
FirstClass 9.1, and FirstClass Application Services (FCAS) 3.2 Build 3243 are system prerequisites.
FirstClass ED
FirstClass ED is an innovative education development application designed to seamlessly integrate with the FirstClass communications and collaboration platform. Offering a robust set of tools for both teaching and learning, FirstClass ED delivers the flexibility to extend education beyond the traditional brick and mortar classroom setting – providing a cost-effective and easy-to-use solution for automating and enhancing the process of learning.
New Product Features and Enhancements
FirstClass ED 2.0 introduces the FirstClass Online Testing application. Teachers can now quickly and easily create, publish, administer, and score tests. Students are just a click away from taking their exams, assessments, quick quizzes, and practice tests.
FirstClass Online Testing is comprised of the following tools: Authoring, Runtime Testing, Reporting, and the Import-Export wizard. Screen shots of the respective user interfaces follow in Figures 1-3.
FirstClass Online Testing feature highlights include:
• questions and tests are categorized by both grade and subject
• an unlimited number of questions and tests may be created
• question types supported:
• multiple choice
• true/false
• numerical
• match
• short answer
• question instructions may be inserted
• answer feedback may be presented
• questions and tests may be previewed during authoring
• test instructions may be inserted
• multiple versions of tests can be given by both randomizing questions and answers
• tests can be restricted to student lists
• tests can be restricted to specific time intervals
• tests can be time limited
• tests are automatically marked (with the exception of the short answer question type)
• results can be presented immediately to student or emailed
• results reports can be generated for an individual student, an entire class, and the test itself
• question and test formats that can be imported:
• QTI Lite
• GIFT
• WebCT
• Aiken
• FCOT
• course content that can be imported:
• SCORM (as a file)
• FCOT
