New Product Features and Enhancements

New in Server

FirstClass is a 64-bit Application

FirstClass 9.1 SP1 server and Internet Services is now available as a 32-bit and the new premier 64-bit version for the Windows platform.

The higher performance, higher reliability, and larger system memory demands of FirstClass VLS (Very Large Scale) sites is addressed by the 64-bit version of FirstClass. The 32-bit FirstClass software may be installed on either 32-bit or 64-bit platforms, while the 64-bit FirstClass software will only install on a 64-bit platform.

The System tab of the Server Monitor will indicate whether a server is a 32-bit or 64-bit application (separately from whether it is running on a 32-bit or 64-bit platform).

FirstClass Updates Service

Automatic software updates has arrived. FirstClass 9.1 SP1 servers can now establish a secure gateway connection to the new FirstClass Updates server (administered by FirstClass Division) to periodically check for, and to receive, software updates.

Newly installed systems will be provided with the FirstClass Updates gateway pre-configured. Existing sites need only to execute an upgrade script to setup the gateway. No other administrator intervention is required to begin using the Update Service.

The gateway is scheduled to connect to the FirstClass Updates server once per day, at a random time between 4-5am local time. During the very first connection, the gateway will establish a securely generated password. The FirstClass Updates server will create a secure gateway account for the site’s server based upon its unique server serial number (SSN).

Although not recommended, sites may adjust the connection schedule, or turn off the schedule to disable the Update Service. Deleting the FirstClass Updates gateway is strongly discouraged.

Gateway Administration

  • Automated gateway password change is now supported directly on the gateway config form. If the Administrator changes the outbound password on the form, the gateway will automatically handle the change password procedure on the next login to the remote site. There is no need to login as the gateway or request the remote site Administrator to change the remote password. This feature can also be used with the secure password generator described below.
  • To avoid problems with open gateway accounts, the gateway form will now generate a password if one is not supplied by the administrator. A new secure password can be forced by simply deleting the current password. The server will generate a password and automatically configure the remote gateway account on the next login.
  • Gateway error logs now include the gateway name.

FirstClass Scripting

  • “Hidden” files are now ignored when processing the batch folder.
  • The rules system can now issue the GET command and other monitor commands.
  • SETEXPORTFILTERS command has been enhanced with respect to the modified date:
SETEXPORTFILTERS
MODIFIED BEFORE yyyy/mm/yy hh:mm:ss +d
<<< everything before the specified data and time

MODIFIED AFTER yyyy/mm/yy hh:mm:ss +d
<<< everything after the specified date and time

MODIFIED BEFORE yyyy/mm/yy hh:mm:ss  MODIFIED AFTER yyyy/mm/yy hh:mm:ss +d
<<< everything between the specified dates and times

  • SETEXPORTOPTIONS command now permits setting one option without having to specify all the other ones:
SETEXPORTOPTIONS
ATTACH <AttachmentName>
EXTENSION <ExtOfAttachments>
TARGET <BaseObjDesc>

Audit

  • An unbalanced index diagnostic is now only reported if a rebuild would fix it.
  • Maximum number of recycled items is now correctly calculated.
  • Diagnostics has been enhanced to check for container links that reference invalid volumes or directories:
Link to purged volume (VolID)
[VolID,DirID] "ObjName" : "ObjSubject"

Unassigned data link  "ObjName" : "ObjSubject"
[VolRefID,DirID > HWM]

Directory

  • Rebuilds will now sort the new index based on the directory's language.

General

  • UIF strings for new users created in the 9.x stream are no longer doubly translated.
  • A properly translated name of uploaded files is now sent to the client, when it is requesting a download.
  • Bookmarks has been fixed so that URLs now appear in the list.
  • MP3 tag extractor now correctly handles files with embedded album art.
  • MP3 tag extractor now uses the filename as the title if no tags are found in the file.
  • Enhanced NDN reports to translate error code to string.
  • Improved NDNs when Archive Services is missing.
  • Subscription path can now be set on the Group Permissions form – previously the field did not work.
  • Search now handles multi-token patterns properly as well as certain punctuation problems.
  • Search no longer reports an incorrect (1) error when the pattern is not found.
  • The Swedish character table has been adjusted in a new FCSLang.rez  file.
  • Performance improvements have been made, and should be especially noticeable on Linux platforms.
  • [OS X] DNS lookup crashes should no longer occur on OS X 10.5.2 platforms.

New in Internet Services

  • Incorrect caching of paged picture resources has been fixed.
  • The imgdata command now properly handles lang icons/images.
  • Fixed inbound embedded image problem when there are also regular attachments (not just images).
  • Embedding of images with filenames containing more than 31 characters is now supported in chat.
  • FormatIconOutput: fixed handling of lang icons when calculating sizes.
  • X-FC-RESOURCE: fixed handling of lang icons and images, added support for getting icon/image info from the cache (performance improvement).
  • Fixed mis-indexing of newly added subscriber list names.
  • String version of HaveOverrideIcon has been enhanced to filter out fallback and other formatting chars in an icon string.
  • The recipient status is now reset properly when the connection is dropped and a subsequent MX host is contacted. This previously resulted in NDNs listing 503 errors for DATA command.
  • SMTP submission (port 587) support has been added. For more information, refer to RFC 4409. In section 8, IS implements 8.3 Add 'Message-ID', and possibly 8.8 Header Rewriting (via rules.MailRules.) There is a new tab (Submission) in the Advanced Mail dialog.
  • A predefined variable named IsSubmission for rules.MailRules use has been added.
  • An error message when attempting to set a predefined variable in rules.MailRules has been added.
  • Fetching icons from override resources no longer results in a crash.
  • Corrupt resources no longer result in a crash.
  • Extra logging to identify corrupt override resources has been added. Corrupt resources are fingered at level 0 to alert the administrator to the problem.
  • Support for a third way of returning multiple LDAP email aliases has been added. The LDAP tab in the Advanced Directory dialog contains the UI for this feature, which supersedes the inetsvcs.cf method of switching between the first two methods.
  • An endless loop will no longer occur if the message is lacking recipients.
  • Performance when many large winmail.dat messages arrive at the same time has been improved.
  • A new SSI parsing mode “parse once” has been defined, which allows for the creation of browser-cacheable SSI files.
  • Cut idle connection pickup time from 50->10ms.
  • Quoted text of plain text replies no longer results in extra characters.
  • Fixed access past end of buffer crash when receiving HTTP form post.
  • IMAP LIST command handling has been improved.
  • The LSUB command now fully lists the INBOX (mailbox) tree, and only does a single level treewalk at the desktop. This improves performance for users with many folders/conferences visible from their desktop.
  • The non-standard date format used by Google vCalendar invitations is now supported.
  • More fixes for caching of lang-specific resources (this time in legacy resource files (i.e. "English Resources" etc...)).
  • Japanese menus now display correctly in the web client.
  • [OS X] The -p option has been added to the cp commands in Double Click Me.command, located in fcisd.dmg. This preserves the date/time stamp on copied files.
