Availability

FirstClass 10.0 SP1 components are now available to customers who have a valid maintenance and support contract. FirstClass Update Services will automatically download this software update to your server. If your server’s Update Services schedule is turned off, you may manually initiate an Update Services request to receive the update.

The FirstClass Client 10.009 System Upgrader will add the FirstClass client installer to your All Desktops group's resources folder, and update ClientDownloads in Internet Services > WWW. Users logging in with an 8.301 or newer client will be presented with a client update dialog.

To renew or purchase your M&S contract, please contact your regional Sales Support Center listed at the end of this bulletin.

Please ensure that you have your server specific FirstClass 10 license, and review the FirstClass 10.0 SP1 Release Notes, ReadMe First! text, and instructions accompanying the installer thoroughly before proceeding with the upgrade.

New Product Features and Enhancements

The new features and fixes (since FirstClass Directory Services 10.0 Build 11 and Client 10.000) are listed in this section.

FirstClass Application Services 4.0

This is the first release version of FirstClass Application Services 4.0 for Windows. The operating system and hardware requirements specified for FirstClass 10.0 server apply. FirstClass Client 10.000, or greater, is required to configure the settings file which FCAS uses to connect to the server.

The RAD development environment only works when running the 32-bit version of FCAS. On a 64-bit operating system, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of FCAS may be installed. It is recommended that clustered FCAS gateways be installed, and to use one running the 32-bit version of FCAS as a development environment. It is recommended that 64-bit versions of FCAS be used to run production applications.

FCAS 4.0 is stricter in its code checking than FCAS 3.x, i.e. it will now pick up code issues which would have got through in builds like FCAS 3.2 build 3243. Source code will need to be modified to rebuild applications to fix cases which get identified.

RAD projects which contain extended characters hard-coded in the source will need to be revised to re-enter the extended characters.

On 64-bit operating systems, a 64-bit application can’t access 32-bit ODBC drivers. A 32-bit application running on a 64-bit OS can. Applications which access Access databases will not work unless you are using the 32-bit version of FCAS.  In order to modify ODBC datasources, the 32-bit ODBC control panel, and not the 64-bit one, will need to be opened (despite the fact that they appear identical).  There is also the added confusion of the pathnames used by Microsoft operating systems to store files. The 64-bit ODBC Administrator control panel is located at %SystemRoot%\system32\odbcad32.exe, but is a 64-bit control panel.  The 32-bit ODBC Administrator control panel is located at %SystemRoot%\wow64\odbcad32.exe and is a 32-bit control panel, but has no icon anywhere in the OS.  The datasources accessible to 32-bit applications are in the 32-bit control panel and the ones accessible to 64-bit applications are in the 64-bit control panel.

FirstClass Directory Services 10.0 SP1

LDIF Export/Import login with gateway credentials no longer broken.
Large search results no longer cause a crash.
Support added for replication filtering.
SSL certificates with blank lines in RSA key and/or signed by certificate authorities now read correctly.
Improved termination of authentication connections to prevent possibility that DS would hang.

FirstClass Client 10.009

The client now includes OTSM icons.
Customers with a ß character in their password can now log in properly.
Corrected spelling of "Licence" to "License" on the System Profile licensing tab.

Clicking on the Mail navigation button now expands your mailbox to show subfolders, making it similar to every other button on the navigation pane.
Removed the 'Go Back' and 'Go Forward' buttons.
Fixed a number of missing menu items.
Files of all kinds can now be dragged and dropped into a message body.
Pictures can now be dragged into a message body properly again.

Weekly and monthly printouts now use a different positioning algorithm. A blank weekly or monthly calendar should now take up an entire page. Each row has an 'ideal height' - the space the row would take up on an empty calendar. The positioning will keep row sizes as close to the ideal height as possible, while trying to get as much onto a single page as possible.
If you create a new event on a location calendar, the event will be created with the location name set to the name of the calendar (i.e. an event created on the 'Boardroom' location calendar has its location set to 'Boardroom'). This only affects event creation; the location can be changed as desired.
Fixed a bug with list mode printing that was occasionally printing incorrect data instead of the event start and end time.
Printing a closed calendar from the desktop no longer crashes.
Calendar printing no longer crashes when printing a week view with 'Working Hours Only' checked.
Calendar printing no longer crashes when printing a day view with events where the start time and end time are equal.
Current day header on the work week calendar now uses a different, more noticeable, color to distinguish it from other days.
Copy Calendar Event may now keeps its settings.
Tasks now print in the same order they are displayed within the client.
Fixed an error with the wrong preview image being shown when you first open the print layout dialog when printing a calendar.
Fixed checkboxes on the print layout dialog that were disabled or in weird states when printing a calendar (print on the toolbar, File -> Print, Ctrl+P) without ever having set properties through File -> Print Layout.

Now able to import a file containing more than one bookmark.
Importing now imports attachments on Mac and multiple attachments on both Mac and Windows.
Importing now looks for attachments in the proper folder.
Importing a message no longer fails if the folder name for the message is over 63 bytes long.
Attachments can now be imported for exported documents with attachments.

The client will allow file uploading for files with names greater than 63 bytes in length. Names are shortened to 63 bytes, properly preserving the file extension, since the server still has a 63-byte limit.
File transfer no longer changes .docx extension to .doc.

[Windows/OS X] Creating calendar events by clicking on the calendar and typing a number no longer adds the time to the event subject.
[Windows/OS X] Ctrl+Clicking on a window's title bar and selecting a parent container for the current window properly opens the parent container once again.
[OS X] Possible crash when click Nav Desktop after open a contact form has been fixed.
[Linux] Right-clicking a message or event no longer shows the Color submenu without the text 'Color', and other formatting messages that don't apply (Font, Font Face, and Size) don't show up at all.
