Description

This is an announcement of the general availability (GA) of FirstClass Application Services (FCAS) 4.0 for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux platforms.

The new product versions are:
  • FirstClass Application Services 4.0 Build 4154 for Windows 32-bit
  • FirstClass Application Services 4.0 Build 4154 for Windows 64-bit
  • FirstClass Application Services 4.0 Build 4154 for Mac OS X 64-bit
  • FirstClass Application Services 4.0 Build 4154 for Linux 64-bit


Availability

FirstClass Application Services 4.0 Build 4154 upgrade installers are available now to existing customers who have a valid maintenance and support contract. FirstClass Update Services will automatically download these to your server. If your server’s Update Services schedule is turned off, you may manually initiate an Update Services request to receive the update.

FirstClass Application Services 4.0 for new installs will become available in the upcoming weeks for download from FCOL in the following location:

Windows, Mac OS X, Linux New Install
Conferences/Downloads/FirstClass 11 Product Updates/FCAS Updates/

Please ensure that you have review the FirstClass Application Services 4.0 ReadMe First! text, and instructions accompanying the installer thoroughly before proceeding with the upgrade.

FirstClass Application Services 4.0 Build 4154

This is the second release of FirstClass Application Services 4.0 for Windows. The operating system and hardware requirements specified for FirstClass 10.0/11.0 server applies. FirstClass Client 10.000, or greater, is required to configure the settings file which FCAS uses to connect to the server.

The RAD development environment is only available for the 32-bit version of FCAS for Windows. On a Windows 64-bit operating system, both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of FCAS may be installed. It is recommended that clustered FCAS gateways be installed, and to use one running the 32-bit version of FCAS as a development environment. It is recommended that 64-bit versions of FCAS be used to run production applications.



New Product Features and Enhancements

The new features and fixes (since FirstClass Applications Services 4.0 Build 4113) are listed in this section.

  • Extended character fixes for Right & Left functions.
  • Fixed Lowercase to work on UTF8 characters.
  • Fixes to Lowercase and Uppercase to include terminating NULL characters.
  • Update server crash reporting supported, when enabled on the server.
  • Added ServerFile.ExistsResource.
  • Add automatic handling of server time zone to ISOToDate.
  • Fix for crash on freeing swapped forms.
  • Fix for apps sleeping.
  • Corrected issue with indexed or FindFirst/FindNext access to container data with blank rows.
  • Fixed several IsContainer checks that were getting incorrect results.
  • Further improvement to File.Exists.
  • Added ServerFile keywords for autoopen, unapproved, protected, outgoing, sent, unread, voice, subscribed, attachments, addressed, moved, urldoc, replicated, partial, deleted.
  • Added support for deleting directories and deleting by path.
  • Fixed Spawn with no quotes.
  • Implemented direct file assignment in ServerFile.Attachment.
  • Corrected filename of ServerFile after a CloseObject or CloseFile.
  • Add File.MkDir keyword.
  • Added ServerFile.Urgent keyword.
  • Improved quoted string passing to Spawn.
  • Timezone translation for ISO dates.
  • Completed ISOToDate and DateToISO keywords.
  • Implemented ServerFile.WaitForChange.
  • Increase maximum array size.
  • Crash fix on string concatenation of NULL string.
  • Corrected ServerFile dates off by one second.
  • Crash fix on retrieving extremely long ToNames via ServerFile.
  • Fix for ReDim of an Integer array after calling Erase on the array.
  • Crash fix on rare case of failed application startup.
  • Updated InStr, Left, Mid, Right to be UTF8 aware for byte offset versus character lengths.
  • Improved Len() performance.
  • Len() now returns character length for UTF8 strings with extended characters.
  • Added StrCount end of string sanity check.
  • Sent message deletion option added for Impersonated EMail objects.
  • Fix for untranslated ASCII characters.
  • Fix for memory leakage when ServerDirectory objects are used repeatedly.
