Availability

FirstClass Update Services will automatically download the files to your server. If your server’s Update Services schedule is turned off, you may manually initiate an Update Services request to receive the update.

FirstClass Synchronization Services 11.0 will become available in the upcoming weeks for download from FCOL in the following location:

Windows
Conferences/Downloads/FirstClass 11 Product Updates/FC11 Synchronization Services Updates/

Please ensure that you have reviewed the FirstClass Synchronization Services 11.0 ReadMe First! text, and instructions accompanying the files thoroughly before proceeding with an upgrade or initial installation.

To renew or purchase your M&S contract, please contact your regional Sales Support Center listed at the end of this bulletin.

New Product Features and Enhancements

The new features and fixes (since FirstClass Synchronization Services 10.0 Build 11) are listed in this section.

  • Added support for 64-bit builds of FCSS.
  • Added SSL support.
  • Fix for SSL certificates with empty lines in the RSA key not to be read correctly.
  • FCSS logging in as Advanced Gateway Client.
  • Provided support for Open Text Social Workplace servers to supply contacts from My People into a separate folder on a device.
  • Implemented WIPE DEVICE for SyncML. In ActiveSync WIPE DEVICE is device dependent. In SyncML FCSS sends a "delete all" command for all databases (contacts and calendar events and tasks).
  • Adjusted SyncML code to handle some unsolicited requests that could potentially cause a crash.
  • Added ActiveSync 12.1 Wait command support.
  • Added support for contact picture in SyncML 1.2 (provided the device supports it too).
  • Added multiple email address support. Both ActiveSync and SyncML 1.2 support up to 3 email addresses.
  • iPhone 3.1 does not add items on UPDATE command if an item does not exist on the phone. This prevents SLOW sync from initializing the device with missing data (in iPhone).
  • UPDATE command is replaced with an ADD so that SLOW sync actually updates the device with all data.
  • Added Group Support via ActiveSync.
  • Added subcontainer support for devices that can handle ActiveSync groups (iPhone for now).
  • Allow iPhone 3.0 to use text header for ActiveSync 12.1.
  • Work-around for no dataset Class tag in iPhone 3.0 ActiveSync 12.1 Sync command.
  • Added support for ActiveSync Settings command.
  • Configurable disable of PUSH. When ACTIVESYNC_MAX_PING_INTERVAL is set to zero then PUSH is "disabled". Since it is not possible to disable the push on the device FCSS sends a status "Wait interval error" back to the device and sets the new MINIMUM wait interval period in which the device is allowed to initiate a new PUSH command.
  • This interval by default is 30 minutes but can be custom set with a new cf file parameter ACTIVESYNC_MIN_PING_INTERVAL. Effectively, PUSH is not disabled but "postponed" to be less frequent. This allows the server to logout the client instead of keeping a session logged in as in a normal frequent (every few minutes) push request.
  • WARNING: This does not work correctly with the AstraSync for BlackBerry, which does not respect protocol restrictions and immediately re-issues a Ping/Wait request. This behavior results in a BlackBerry being constantly "on-air" sending Ping requests to FCSS , and building up  tcp connections which can cause a crash. It is not recommended to disable Ping if there are AstraSync for BlackBerry clients until AstraSync corrects this.
  • If PUSH is disabled on the server, FCSS will not terminate the session but will keep the user logged in. No sync will take place on an PUSH attempt by the device.
  • This new FCSS behaviour is due to the fact that some devices (iPad) do not recognize AS command to extend the PUSH interval to the one specified in the configuration file.
  • Consequently, a new PUSH request is issued immediately to FCSS by the device. This has 2 negative effects. One, it forces a user login, ever few seconds putting unnecessary load on FC server.
  • Second, a warning message is issued to the user for each login as a result of a failed PUSH request. This message floods the user mailbox. If a user stays logged only one warning message will be issued.
  • Subsequent PUSH request are simply ignored. User will be logged out when PUSH is turned OFF on the device or when the device is turned OFF.
  • Added assistant name and number in ActiveSync.
  • Added manager name in ActiveSync.
  • Added calendar event filtering from device settings as specified in ActiveSync. Filtering is done on events:
  • Added support for GetChanges subcommand in ActiveSync Sync to allow Droid sync.
  • Fixed memory leak issue in ActiveSync code.
  • Added support for enumeration of containers that have subfolders with same name.
  • Removed password logging when credentials are invalid.
  • Stamp all entries synced from the device with the "last sync time" so that they do not get picked up on the next sync. This feature will only work with FirstClass 10, or later, servers.
  • Provided Mailbox notifications to user on sync errors and on new device registration. These are READ-ONLY documents.
  • Fixed FCSS hangs on midnight reset.
  • Fix for midnight log rollover that does not force-terminate connections and sessions.
  • All sessions and connections are now flushed at midnight log-rollover.
  • Fix for various connection crashes of FCSS.
  • Extended maximum event note length to 20K and contact note to 4K.
  • Added iPod as device that supports subcontainers.
  • Fix for unsolicited queued commands (like partial Search segments from iPhone) that were not blocked and would proceed with execution on a completed session causing a potential crash.
  • Replaced XPT-TCP layer with FC-TCP layer.
  • Provisioned for iPad to support sub-containers and correct contact picture aspect ratio.
  • Reminders are not synced any more on punch-through calendar events. This avoids alerts on the phone for events that are not owned by the phone user.
  • Fix for newly registered device to send contact pictures on initial sync.
  • Adjusted aspect ratio of contact pictures sent to iPhone so they are not stretched.
  • Fixed corrupt contact picture crashes.
  • Enhanced HTTP logging to include header info.
  • Fix for HTTP header buffer overrun crash.
  • Fix for faulty HTTP headers with no session info to buildup of connections.
  • Fix for endless loop and failure of calendar sync observed on some devices that was caused by event message body that was incorrectly terminated on WBXML code page 17.
  • Fix for a contact with multiple email handling that would falsely map a deleted email (empty string) into a contact entry with no name or quick name, corrupting the contact with incorrect email address.
  • If run as Windows service, FCSS no longer incorrectly reports to be running a standalone application.
  • Implemented device capabilities table. The table can be populated with new entries via intesvcs.cf file and is added during slow sync.
