New Product Features and Enhancements

The new features and fixes (since FirstClass Directory Services 10.0 Build 17) are listed in this section.

General New Features

  • New setup option to update all user fields when modifying DN in Replication/Advanced tab.
  • OUs are now added to the path during replication if they exist in the FCNS directory.
  • All groups/OUs including those not under any Directory Services leveling scheme are retrieved at startup and are treated as FC groups.
  • Unlisted/Deleted users now have alias field cleared to allow re-creation of user with same alias.
  • Changing UIF correlator field 1274 via batch admin on FirstClass Server will cause Directory Services to update the correlator (and any stored CN) in the LDAP tree.
  • Added command line activation of component tracing.
  • Disabled all Directory Services listeners if running in Authentication mode.
  • FC Control Panel (FCSCTL64.EXE) is required to install service, eliminating the need for server registration.
  • Command line option ALLOWDUPLICATES eliminated and this mode is default. New switch /NODUPLICATES forces Directory Services at startup to create dictionary with no duplicates   (consolidates duplicates - slow mode).
  • Removed Win Console and app runs in a DOS box console.
  • Monitor enhanced to contain extra menu commands needed to fully control Directory Services from the Monitor.
  • Added optional CONTAINER replication.
  • Implemented user email address as multi-valued attribute.
  • Replicate telephone number into Voice DN when command line parameter /USEVOICEDN found.
  • Filtering condition improved to handle quoted values.
  • Check users for validity before creation. Valid users must have at least one name component.
  • Check userId for duplicates when correlator is not userId to avoid attempt to create an existing user.
  • At startup smtp address is retrieved from the prefs form.
  • Use sAMAccountName from Active Directory tombstones to identify a user to be deleted if DN not found in the tree.
  • Active Directory tombstone database queried for information to build a valid DN of a deleted entry.
  • Authentication connection re-use timeout is configurable. This is a new entry in the Authentication tab which controls the authentication connection pool usage. Authentication connection are kept "alive" for the duration of the timeout interval (seconds) specified in this setting. If a connection is not reused by the time this interval expires, then the connection to external LDAP server is terminated. Setting this value to zero causes immediate termination of any authentication connection basically, disabling connection pooling. This feature is provides fine tuning of connection pool re-usage with external LDAP servers that have a time limit on any given connection.
  • General tab provides clustering control in 3 different modes. Each mode controls how Directory Services interprets the binding OUs list in the Directory gateway object:
1. Cluster or filtered cluster: First OU is the cluster OU. Subsequent OUs are valid OUs used as replication filter. Replicated DNs must contain a cluster OU followed by OUs only from this list.
2. Cluster with branch filter: First OU is the cluster OU. Subsequent OUs are valid OUs used as branch filter. Replicated DNs must contain a cluster OU followed by at least one OU from this list.
3. Simple branch filter: All OUs are valid OUs used as branch filter. Replicated DNs must contain at least one OU from this list.

  • Content Server authentication.

FCDS Integration with Open Text Social Workplace (OTSW)

  • SMTP address no longer updated for OTSW servers.
  • Opening an OTSW user profile container (shared folders) for update now waits for the desktop object to fill with data, so that the profile will be correctly found.
  • Prefs mail forwarding for OTSW now has the "Forward for local and internet" set to yes.
  • OTSW users previously had SMTP addresses in UIF, which should be only in Prefs for email redirection.
  • Notifications are now handled properly, without losing any redirect info for OTSW users.
  • Selecting "Use UIF for smtp aliases" results in not retrieving the redirection address from an OTSW user’s preferences. This improves startup performance since preferences do not have to be opened for every enumerated user.
When specified in the Directory Services setup form that the target server is an "Open Text Social Workplace Server", Directory Services behavior during replication changes as:

  • Users are created in a normal way. Additionally FCDS creates an OTSW profile for each user in its Shared Documents folder.
  • OTSW profile is populated with users Name, Phone #, Email, Cell #, Company, Department, Title, Manager and Address.
  • User's email address is NOT placed in the UIF. Instead it is placed in the Preference form for mail forwarding.
  • Update of user data updates all normal fields in the UIF EXCEPT email.
  • Update of user OTSW profile updates all mentioned fields in OTSW profile.
  • During replication store OU parent information in the OU resume so that OTSW server can build and search user/OU hierarchy.

General Fixes

  • Possible crash when using LDAP browser in "Authentication Mode" has been fixed.
  • Deletion of OUs logic has been fixed.
  • OUs with spaces in the name no longer fail to obtain correct messageIDs at startup.
  • Contact creation and maintenance has been fixed.
  • Generic replicator now uses the correct BIND request structure.
  • Authentication request/reply structures no longer results in memory leaks.
  • Multivalued email addresses are now presented in correct order in UIF and in search results.
  • Unlist logic has been fixed.
  • Authentication connection pool no longer fails for timeouts greater than 10 secs.
  • Improper handling of search result codes when searching for deleted entries caused link failures.
  • Search for userId no longer fails if a user with the same userId string for its CN exists in FCDS.
  • Replication recovery now resumes from the last hi USN/CSN.
  • Directory Services now handles FCS ObjID wrapping properly.
  • CN can now be set as correlator.
  • Opening the setup form to update hi-water-marks now switches task context correctly during a wait for the object to fill with data, fixing a system hang.
  • Check for infinite loop in purging of entries is now setup correctly.
